About the role
The African Culture and Storytelling Tutor will be responsible for delivering engaging, age-appropriate virtual instruction focused on African history, culture, civilizations, contributions, and diaspora studies. The tutor will provide instruction in both one-on-one and small-group formats, supporting students in developing a strong cultural identity, historical awareness, and critical-thinking skills. This is a contract position, and compensation will be provided on a per-teaching-hour basis.
What you'll do
- Deliver structured and interactive African Studies lessons to students ages 5–18
- Teach topics including African civilizations, leaders, arts, culture, geography, and diaspora history
- Integrate storytelling, multimedia, and culturally relevant teaching strategies
- Prepare lesson materials aligned with Efiko Learning’s curriculum framework
- Provide feedback to parents on student progress
- Maintain professionalism in all students and parent interactions
- Attend occasional virtual team meetings or training sessions
What we're looking for
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in African Studies, History, Cultural Studies, Education, or related field
- Minimum 2 years teaching or tutoring experience (online experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of African history and diaspora perspectives
- Experience teaching children (ages 5–18)
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Reliable internet connection and ability to teach virtually
Preferred:
- Teaching certification
- Experience working with students in the Diaspora or equivalent setting
- Curriculum development experience
